Student and Parent Handbook of Rules

MISSION

To inspire young hearts to discover the beauty of dance — to learn it, feel it, and live it. Through education and participation, we nurture a deep appreciation for this timeless art, enriching both individual lives and the cultural spirit of our community.

VALUES

We foster a caring, supportive space where dancers, staff, and volunteers can grow and thrive. Embracing inclusion and individuality, we ensure everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to express themselves. At the heart of our vision is expanding access to meaningful opportunities that nurture creativity, artistry, and strong technique across all forms of dance.

ELIGIBILITY

We welcome all to join our programs, offering progressive, skill-based classes for ages four and up. At IDEA DANCE, every child can grow in confidence and resilience through an inclusive dance experience.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Consistent attendance means consistent progress. Regular attendance is essential for steady progress and staying on track with classmates. To support a disciplined training schedule, consistent participation is encouraged. Please inform the teacher if your child will miss a class.

TARDINESS

Arriving on time allows students to warm up and prevent injuries. Late arrivals (over 15 minutes) may be asked to observe. If consistent lateness is expected due to a conflict, such as your work schedule or the child’s school schedule, please discuss this with the staff ahead of time.

CONDUCT POLICY

IDEA DANCE is a learning community where staff, students, parents, and volunteers are expected to lead by example. We foster a professional, gracious , respectful, and positive environment—both in the studio and beyond—where kindness and support are shown to all.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

IDEA DANCE students are expected to behave in a responsible and disciplined manner and follow the organization’s rules and regulations inside the facilities and outside the greater community as ambassadors of the organization. Whether participating in Ballet, Jazz, or Hip-Hop, we expect all dancers to act with respect, discipline, and a commitment to growth—both inside our studios and out in the world.

Students are expected to maintain a positive attitude and to always behave in a way that demonstrates self-respect, respect for others, and a desire to learn. This Code of Conduct guides behavior in all IDEA environments and supports a healthy, focused, and creative space for everyone. The Code consists of three parts:

  1. General Behavior
  2. Classroom or Studio
  3. Rehearsals and Performances

GENERAL BEHAVIOR:

  • I will treat all teachers, staff, parents, and fellow students with kindness and respect.
  • I will serve as a positive role model, especially for younger dancers, using appropriate language and behavior at all times.
  • I will approach each class and rehearsal with focus, dedication, and a willingness to learn.
  • I understand that dance—whether Ballet, Jazz, or Hip-Hop—requires discipline, determination, and teamwork.

FOR CLASS:

  • I will arrive early, prepared and ready to warm up.
  • I will wear the correct attire, with hair neatly done as required for my class style.
  • I will store personal items neatly in the designated areas.
  • I will use the restroom before/after class or during designated breaks.
  • I will wait quietly until the previous class ends or I am invited in by the instructor.
  • I will give my full attention, listen carefully, and accept corrections with a positive attitude.
  • I will not use my cell phone or talk during class unless directed by the teacher.

FOR PERFORMANCE REHEARSALS IN THE STUDIO

  • I will meet all classroom behavior expectations.
  • I will prepare by reviewing music and choreography at home.
  • I will arrive early to warm up and review any notes.
  • I will follow all instructions from the choreographer and remain focused throughout the rehearsal.

FOR DRESS REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

  • I will meet all expectations of classroom behavior.
  • I will arrive at my call time to allow for costuming, makeup, and choreography review.
  • I will arrive with dance attire, hair, hairpiece, and makeup as prescribed. I will store my bag, clothes, and supplies in the specified area and keep it neat and clean.
  • I will be quiet backstage and to-and- from the dressing room.
  • I will stay alert, know my cues, and support my fellow performers.
  • I will keep track of my costume and accessories daily and ensure they are neatly stored.
  • I will respectfully perform cleanup tasks at the show’s end.
  • I will not eat while in costume or drink anything but water.

If a student behaves in a way that is disruptive or inappropriate, they may be asked to sit out briefly. Continued behavior issues may result in being removed from class until a parent can meet with staff to address the concern.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION FOR MISCONDUCT

Students are expected to follow all IDEA DANCE rules and conduct standards. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, including removal from class or the program.

The following behaviors are not tolerated:

  • Disrespect toward instructors or fellow dancers

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Promote teamwork, respect, and positivity at all IDEA events.
  • Support teachers and choreographers without interfering in instruction or choreography decisions.

PERFORMANCES & REHEARSALS

Performing is a beautiful milestone in each dancer’s journey, offering inspiration and a chance to shine. It gives students a goal to pursue and helps families witness their growth firsthand. We recognize that the commitment necessary for performances may not fit everyone’s busy schedule. Performing is not mandatory.

Rehearsals are thoughtfully scheduled outside regular classes to preserve essential training time, and they come at no extra cost.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION/PARENT PRODUCTION REQUIREMENT

Volunteering is vital to the success of IDEA DANCE, and we warmly welcome your involvement. Please connect with our staff to find meaningful ways your time, skills, and energy can support our community. Especially during performances, volunteers play a crucial role—from backstage to front of house—to ensure everything runs smoothly. By volunteering, you become an essential part of your child’s journey and create lasting memories that they will cherish forever. Your support truly makes a difference and is deeply appreciated.

INSURANCE & LIABILITY

IDEA is insured – civil liability – for all situations in which it is held liable.

The school accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of objects.

We therefore advise you to take out civil liability insurance in the event of such an incident.
